Indication of Panzytrat 25000:

Used to replace pancreatic enzymes in conditions in which they are lacking (pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI)):- cystic fibrosis- chronic pancreatitis- post-pancreatectomy- post-gastrointestinal bypass surgery- ductal obstruction.Panzytrat 25000 is only for use in patients older than 18 months.

Action of Panzytrat 25000:

The body requires enzymes released by the pancreas in order to properly digest foods. Pancrease replaces these enzymes in the duodenum, the place they would usually be released, and normal digestion can take place. Proper digestion is important to ensure the body receives all the nutrients contained in food.

Dose advice of Panzytrat 25000:

Dosage of Panzytrat 25000 must be individualised to each patient and is determined based on symptoms and fat content of diet. Start with a low dose and adjust according to stool studies over three days.Panzytrat 25000 capsules should be taken with food and plenty of water should be drunk to maintain hydration. If swallowing of capsules is a problem, they can be opened and microtablets sprinkled on pH neutral food (banana, apricot, sweet potato, applesauce, instant pudding) and eaten immediately.Enzyme activity is destroyed if microtablets come in contact with anything with an alkaline pH (including stomach contents after antacid ingestion).Recommended dosing regimes are as follows:Adults- initially 1 capsule with every meal and snack (approx 6 capsules per day)- individual variation may require higher dosing- maximum daily lipase dose: 20,000 BP units/kgChildren > 18months- initially 1 capsule with every meal and snack (approx 4 capsules per day)- individual variation may require higher dosing- maximum daily lipase dose: 20,000 BP units/kgChildren > 18months with cystic fibrosis- do not exceed 6,000 BP units/kg/meal
