Indication of Carboplatin Injection:

Treatment of various cancers including ovarian, small cell lung carcinoma, carcinoma of the head, neck and testis, some pediatric brain tumours, soft tissue sarcomas and neuroblastoma.

Action of Carboplatin Injection:

Carboplatin targets and kills cancer cells. It does this by damaging the DNA within the cell.

Dose advice of Carboplatin Injection:

Carboplatin is administered intravenously. One dose for previously untreated adults with normal renal function is 500mg/m². In general, carboplatin is given over 15-60 mins with at least 4 weeks between each treatment.

Common side effects of Carboplatin Injection:

• Suppression of bone marrow, hence deficiency of blood components -anaemia, difficultly fighting infection, tendency to bleed and bruise easily
• Damage to kidneys and liver
• Damage to hearing
• Changes in sensation
• Nausea and vomiting

Uncommon side effects of Carboplatin Injection:

• Allergic reactions
• Hair loss
• Flu-like symptoms
• Reaction at injection site
