Indication of Stemetil:

Prochlorperazine is used in the treatment of:
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Vertigo (sensation of the room spinning)

    Action of Stemetil:

    Prochlorperazine has several mechanisms of action that lead to its effects of relieving nausea and vomiting. It can also be used to relieve psychotic symptoms.

    Dose advice of Stemetil:

  • Nausea and vomitingAdults:Oral dosing:
  • The initial recommended dose is 20 mg
  • 10 mg may be given 2 hours later
  • 5-10 mg may be given 3 times a day if requiredIntramuscular and intravenous dosing:
  • 12.5 mg every 8 hours as required.Rectal dosing:
  • 25 mg followed by oral dosing 6 hours later.Children:
  • 250 micrograms/kg given orally two to three times a day.VertigoAdults:Intramuscular and intravenous dosing:
  • 12.5 mg every 8 hours as requiredOral dosing:
  • 5-10 mg two to three times a day
