About Myeloma Foundation

Myeloma Foundation of Australia Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation that was formed in 1998 to provide support for those affected by myeloma. Myeloma, also known as multiple myeloma, is a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow.

Vision and Mission

Their Vision A world without myeloma. Their Mission To facilitate myeloma research in Australia, inform and support those living with the disease and to educate those involved in its treatment and care. They aim to achieve this through prevention of myeloma and control of its symptoms and effects. Their priorities include:
  • Supporting specialists, clinicians and researchers and raising funds for myeloma research.
  • Helping patients and families to take control of their situation by accessing a range of services and working together with health professionals.
  • Raising awareness and understanding of myeloma within the wider community.
  • Creating fellowship opportunities within the myeloma community.

Programs and Services

Programs and services provided include:
  • Telephone Support Line - a national fee-call service providing information, referrals and support to patients, relatives and carers.
  • Support Groups - localised support groups for carers, family, friends and sufferers of Myeloma to share experiences, feelings and information.
  • Information Services - information sessions are conducted for people concerned about the diagnosis, treatment, management and support of myeloma. A patient guide and various information sheets are produced free of charge.
  • Education - a range of courses and education programs for health professionals & care workers are offered.
  • Promotion - support of Myeloma related events.
  • Medical and Scientific Advisory Group - developed to encourage and facilitate myeloma research.
